O anúncio de lançamento do kernel 5.17 foi feito 20 de Março de 2022 por Linus Torvalds.
"Então,
tivemos uma semana extra no final deste ciclo de lançamento, e estou
feliz em informar que foi realmente muito calmo. ... conseguimos algumas
reversões e correções de última hora e evitamos alguns bugs que de
outra forma teria ocorrido, então está tudo bem."
